What an outstanding opportunity Eby Exteriors had to replace this Standing-Seam Metal roof on this large church roof near Lansdale, PA. The existing standing-seam roof on the church was the original from the 1950’s and was beginning to show significant wear. The flat roof sections, while not original, were also showing significant wear including cracks at many seams. The built-in gutters were leaking at various points.

The Church Board had already decided that they wanted to go with another standing-seam roof. After evaluating the structure, we showed them that the existing framing would be able to support a new roof built directly over the existing roof. This was a great solution for the church in that it saved them the cost of removing the existing roof and also kept the church dry throughout the process of installing the new roof. Beyond that, having the existing roof remain provides an excellent secondary protection in the event of a leak or wind-blown issue with the new roof. Finally, we recommended white TPO for the flat roof sections. The TPO costs a bit more than traditional epdm (rubber) but it is more durable. The white color, along with the increased insulation provided by 1” ISO board will help keep the 2nd-floor rooms the roof is covering much cooler in the summer and cozier in the winter.

The built-in gutters were in very poor condition so we needed to take a considerable amount of time to make sure that they were structurally sound and then water tight. Because of the work we had to do, we had to custom design a new steel cap that covered the area between the gutters and the edge of the roof and have our sheet metal professional bend those for us. We also installed new siding on the dormers. Everything turned out very well.

We were given a section of the parking lot from which to stage our operation and had to work very hard to keep our materials within that area during the evenings and weekends when we were not there. This is a busy, functioning church that has many events and operates a child daycare center. We also had to alter some of our work schedule to accommodate a couple of funerals and special events. In the end, the church was very pleased with how we took care of the campus and worked with them.

They did an excellent job on our new roof! The workers were very cordial, on time, and they maintained a clean jobsite throughout the process. I would recommend them for any job!   Ed Sturm – Head of Maintenance, Central Schwenkfelder Church
