Career Questions
What is your position at Eby Exteriors and what does it entail?- I am a salesman and project manager at Eby Exteriors. In the office, I’m putting together project proposals, organizing jobs, coordinating subcontractors, and ensuring that all our jobs run smoothly. I specialize in interior renovation projects.
In addition to managing projects, I also get to consult with potential clients. I meet them at potential jobsites and talk to them about what they want and how Eby Exteriors can help them make it happen. On active jobsites, I help ensure that everything is compliant and meets customer expectations.
- My dad and grandfather were both carpenters, so construction has been in my life as long as I can remember. We were always doing projects around the house, and they taught me many great skills at a young age. My early jobs included contracting, estimating, and managing projects. From there, I got a position as general manager at a local cabin builder. For 24 years, I managed their installations.
After that, I started my own construction company. My son also had his own company, so we eventually joined forces. I developed projects, and my son worked with the customers and at the jobsites. He and I worked together for over ten years before he moved out of the area.
- When my son moved out of town, I decided that I didn’t want to start over on my own. I started contacting local businesses in search of an opportunity but wasn’t finding anywhere that excited me. Then, I met Mark Yoder.
He wanted Eby Exteriors to grow into more interior work, and I had many years of interior, basement, and full-house renovations under my belt. The company also had a great culture and reliable workers. It was a perfect match!
- I have done every role there is in construction; from field work to owning and running a business. With this experience, I’ve learned how to make things work smoothly for customers and the workers. There are a lot of moving pieces in the projects we take on, and I know how important forethought, planning, and preparation are.
A well-run project makes things more enjoyable for us AND for you.
- I love going to jobsites and helping a customer envision their renovation, especially when I can bring ideas to the table they haven’t considered. I never get tired of hearing, “This is exactly what I wanted,” at the end of a project.
- My favorite projects are interior renovations. It is exciting to help a customer dream about reinventing an existing space then see it come to fruition alongside them. Old houses are great, too!
I’ve worked on a few houses that have been in a family for generations. Reviving old houses to make them more livable while keeping their rustic beauty is always a compelling challenge.
Personal Interest Questions
When not in the office, how do you like to spend your time?- I love getting outdoors and staying active. We try to go camping with our grandkids a couple of times every summer, and you may find me on a golf course if the weather is nice. Apart from that, we enjoy spending time with friends: taking daytrips, going out for dinner, or staying in and playing cards.
- Stubby’s is my favorite restaurant, especially if the weather is nice and we can sit outside. We also love John J Jeffries in Lancaster and The First Post over in York.
- The Philadelphia Phillies!
